Inclement Weather Plan

In the event of inclement weather, the district will make a determination for a delay or closure by 5:30 a.m. The decision will be communicated through School Alert System. Please note that it may take up to 25 minutes for School Alert System to complete a communication cycle to all staff and families.

Delayed Start

If inclement weather makes roads unsafe necessitating delays for personal and district transportation, then schools will start 2 hours late. School will start at 10:15 a.m. and no breakfast will be served.

School Closure

If inclement weather will prohibit the safe travel on roads throughout the district, then schools will be closed for the day.

·       The school day will be made up on a prescheduled day as prescribed by the school district calendar.

·       All athletics and activities will be canceled.

·       ECEAP/Preschool will follow school closures.

·       Nutrition Services will not provide meals.

Facilities Plan During Inclement Weather

If inclement weather may impact schools, the maintenance team will begin preparing schools no later than 6:00 AM. If there is less than 1 inch of snow, sidewalks will be deiced. If there is more than 1 inch of snow, then a full plow of all schools will be initiated.

How does the District make delay and closure determinations?

1.       If inclement weather is forecasted, then the transportation director begins driving bus routes overnight to check road safety conditions. Consultation is also made with neighboring districts and Lincoln County.

2.       The transportation director will call the Superintendent at 5:00 a.m. The decision to delay or close schools will be made by approximately 5:30 a.m.

3.       The district will send a communication to all district families by our School Alert System. Notifications will also be provided to local media and posted on the district website and social media. The notification cycle may take up to 25 minutes.
